Coaxial Transmission lines
The key interest in transmission is the principal or transverse electronmagnetic (TEM) mode, because except in rare instances coaxial lines are intended to operate in this mode. The name "transverse electronmagnetic" derives from the fact that both the electric and magnetic fields belonging to the TEM mode are entirely normal to the direction of propagation.

CIRCUIT CONCEPTS
Characteristic impedance = Input impedance of an infinitely long line.
Propagation constant = Is a measure of the phase shift and attenuation along the line.
There are two units for propagation constant:
1. Attenuation
2. Phase shift
IMPEDANCE
D= ID of outer conductor
d= OD of inner conductor
For AIR, D/d of 2.3 = 50 ohms impedance
Where 2.3 = Dielectric constant for Polyethylene.
